Pointing device error

Hi,
I have been using Sony Vaio Laptop.
My problem is that my pointing device ( touch pad ) does not work well.
The detail is that the touch pad did not respond to any command.
However left click and right click of this touch pad work well at the same time.
I mean when I want to close a Window, the touch pad did not work. But the left and right click of the touch pad work.So I opened the touch pad window and enter the mouse properties. Then I selected "Tapping".Here I clicked apply button again. This touch pad works again.I am going to be crazy. So please help me how to fix this problem.
This probelm usually occured after surfing movies websites.

How old is the laptop? Is it under warranty? Did the touchpad ever work? Have you tried using an external mouse?

If it is under warranty -- wouldn't it make more sence to be talking to Sony

than trying work around it -- external mouse works -- problem is keypad

If it is under warranty why waste our time and use warranty to fix it!
