route live line to different room(jack)

I just moved into a new home and the previous owner had about 6 lines coming into the house. I transfered my landline to the new address but there's a dial tone only in the kitchen. I need it in my bedroom where I have my fax machine. The jack there is dead. The box is in the basement. How do I redirect the live line to my bedroom from the kitchen, or have it live in both places?

All that needs to be done is go out to Phone box where the 6 lines from Telco connect to inside wiring. 2 terminals are your line, a voltmeter will reveal. then the other 5 pairs of wires need to be disconnected and connected to your 2 terminals.
A phone guy would insert tone generator in jack where you want phone, then he would look for the tone outside, and connect to your pair. Good Luck
Can you provide the list of color of wires at phone box outside?

I will look...the box is actually in the garage. The jack in my bedroom turned out to be dead--it was falling apart. I took a working jack from the basement(found another live line) and tried to hook it up the way it was hooked up in the basement. That didn't work. I guess I have to go to the box in the garage. But how do I know which wires need to be disconnected and does it matter which terminals I connect those wires to? I will let you know the color scheme. I wrote it down but didn't bring it with me today...thanks.

Go to down stairs connections, Draw existing colors and connections.
Bring a coedless phone to downstairs. disconnect 1 wire at a time, 2 of those will cause you to lose dial tone, you will lose dial tone also by time, you will have to hang up a couple of times, or call your cell?
Then go to jack wher fax is to be, remove cover and see what color wires are connected to the Red and Green on Jack.
Then you may get lucky and see those color wires downstairs on a different pair of terminals, they need to be removed and connected to Your working line.
It is also possible to have nothing but red and greens to all 6 incoming lines, Good Luck.
May need a new jack in room, inside jack should have gold connections, not black or green.
