Phone Jack

Asked Mar 28, 2012, 11:09 AM — 2 Answers
Hi~
I am trying to re-activate a phone jack in a 2nd bedroom with my current phone number. I'm not looking for a 2nd phone number - just a second line.

I've tried following instructions on line but I can't seem to make it work.

The wire colors are as follows:
GREEN, YELLOW, BLACK and RED.
Then there are WHITE and ORANGE wires that are 'joined' together by the copper underneath the coating. Then there is a BLUE wire that is not connected and someone has put some sort of 'tap' at the end of these wires that I cannot remove.

What wires do I connect to be able to use this jack with my current number? It did work with my current number before my step-father moved in but we changed it to his number when he lived with me.

Much appreciate any help that can be given.

Make sure and use the same wires (colors) that are used with the other working line in your house - and you should be good to go... unless there is a break in the lines somewhere.

red and green is usually line 1 or white/blue,blue white pair.
Line 2 is usually yellow/black, or orange pair.
On the jack, connect the working pair to the red and green, this is what a single line phone connects too.
