Occupations that deny/don't deny felons in Minnesota

My son is currently in prison, he will get out in 1 year with a felony on his record. He has been in for a year already, is doing very well, got his GED, wants to start education online while serving his last year but doesn't really know what occupation to focus on. He doesn't want to spend the rest of his life making minimum wage at a place he hates, he is very intelligent, unfortunately he made a mistake (burglery/assault) when 19, didn't pass UA's while on probation, and decided to run/hide. Now 26, smarter, and planning his future. He was a drug addict, no charges on his record for that and DEFINATELY does not want that lifestyle back! Anyone that knows books, websites that are best for his planning?
