GRRRRR hire me

I have recently begun university as an undergraduate, and have employed my time over the past few years (from 16 onwards) in the act of trying to get into university and have therefore no work experience. This i believe to be acceptable for someone who aspires to get into a very good university so they can get a great degree and then go on to have a great professional career. ( yet this isn't always the case i know im just ranting and don't want to go down that road)

my problem is that now i have got here and have my student loans which seem to be running out pretty damn quickly why are local employers being so pernickity over the fact i have little experience. don't they know that i have spent the last two years which i have been eligible to work slaving over huge text books sitting in back rooms of solicitors offices reading through hundreds of files to show enough commitment to get into uni that i had no time to stock shelves at the local ASDA

luckily i have some connections via family ( something i didn't like relying on and have secured some part time work )

yet do you think this is acceptable? i would like to hear from other who have been in the same situation.

becasue in a college town they have the pick of 100's if not 1000's of students to hire, they want those that have a history of good work.

And to be honest, ( not sure what country) but in the US, even colleges and employers often look for well rounded people, not only good greats ( don't have to be straight A unless you are getting a scholarship) but sports, music, the arts and more to include either non paid work for charities and/or paid work in the work force.

i wonder, what sort of jobs are you applying for? and are they actually telling you it's because you don't have previous work experience that you're being turned down for the job?

my boyfriend complains about the same thing. he also refuses to look into anything that isn't something in the computer field. if he would apply for a job someplace like the movies, or pretty much any store or shop in our area, he'd be fine. but for now he's setting his sights too hi for someone still in school. i wonder, are you maybe doing the same?

well i have applied for jobs such as shop attendant and bar staff and such jobs in which if i started at the bottom i could get training which would then allow me to get other part time jobs easier over the summer months.

but no one seems interested in hiring people anymore.

Hi, Strange-chicken!

I know that you say that you've just begun university as an undergraduate. But, other years could also be considered undergraduate years. Are you a freshman?

Also, what is your major, please?

Thanks!

Hi again, Strange-chicken!

Is there any chance of working on the campus in some capacity, please? There might be some jobs available that you don't know about yet, until you inquire about them. Sometimes, a job on campus might be created, depending on the need of a particular student.

Thanks!
