Ways for getting translation projects(German,English

Hello, I am a freelance translator with an an experience of three years. I wonder if there is any 'comfortable' way of getting projects in a developing country like India! I have been getting projects through agencies and have first-hand experience of painful negotiation with them. I would like to know from fellow-translators who have found a better way of getting projects.
