no-compete letters

I work as a financial advisor for a firm. Several years ago they had us sign a no-compete letter of one year should we leave the firm. Since then we have changed comp plans several times and they have never had us sign the no-compete again.

1. is the no-compete still in force?
2. if so, is it binding or is it just something to scare us?

Thanks
