Wow, I thought I did this when I guess it was just a thought and not an actual action. Oops!

Hi Everyone,
My name is Susan (you can call me Val too, okay?). I am in my fifties - one of the baby boomers, and living happily ever after in "hurricane alley" (Florida) with my hubby, two cats, a hundred mile a hour black lab dog and a freshwater aquarium we jokingly call "cat tv". His kids are grown. I never had children but I enjoy other people's children immensely.

Both my husband and I come from very dysfunctional familes although the details of such couldn't be more different. He was from a poor, not well educated background and I grew up in a wealthy, very educated culture. We are both estranged from our biological families - for different reasons - and have learned to make our friends really count as a result.

We have each been through some big personal changes to be where we are now, which helps us have the kind of relationship I would wish for anyone - "Shelter from the Storm." I am (like Chery and Chava) diagnosed as having ptsd (post traumatic stress disorder) from being stalked and almost murdered by a stranger as a kid - fortunately laws have changed considerably since then. I was messed up for many years until I received professional help and lots of it.

I am also currently 18 years sober, and as a result of that I eventually traded in the very lucrative field of graphic design (I was burned out on it) for a position in the recovery profession. I like to joke to my old advertising cronies that its "less money, more fulfilling."

As if this hasn't been obvious already - I am spiritual without necessarily being religious and curious about both. I like learn so that is why I like to read, cook, work on the fixer upper house we bought - all great learning experiences for me (my poor hubby dutifiully eats most of my cooking experiments LOL). My main sporting interests have been sailing and fencing, but they have been curtailed by my failing health. I have fibromyalgia which tends to zap me physically.

I am enjoying this forum so much more than any others I have tried and feel priviledged to be with you all. Your friendship means a lot to me. You will eventually see that although I may think I know some things about relationships, pets or cooking ... I just about flunked any mechanical aptitude testing and will have lots of "how do you change a lightbulb" type questions too!

Thanks for having me aboard!
Susan

Hi, Susan,
WELCOME; I really enjoy reading your posts and answers.
It's a great site.
I use to do some Large Mouth Bass fishing around the Everglades....been in a boat when some 3 ft. alligators decided to swim by, about 10 ft from the boat....left for another place! That was in the 1960's. Guess a LOT has changed since then. Lived there for 4 years.
Now in VA, I love the mountains. Have a great Holiday. From the TV Network News recently about Alligators in FL, I would keep a "watch" in your yard!

Hey, fibromyalgia can be helped a lot by a really good massage therapist that knows how to do Reiki. My little honey has mastered massage and especially Reiki and is currently helping two or three people with it. It is all a matter of energy and blockage of energy. Just beware of the woo-woos that think they know! Anyway vsorrow, nice to meet you and I enjoy your posts.

Thanks Fred! I have lived here for some time now and have yet to see an alligator (seen lots of other floridian wildlife though) but there is always a first time for everything! They can be quite quick for a short distance on land so I am actually seriously very mindful living in the "jungle" like this.

Hey, thanks for the tip! Can your "honey" offer any suggestion as to how to sort out a woo woo from the real deal? If so, I am all ears here.
I would like to follow up on that and if I do, I'll definately let you know how it turned out. I am currently reading The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, per my MD's instructions.

By the way, I enjoy a great many of your posts too dude

Sheesh, I have really emptied my "rep bin" so this will have to do...
Thanks Amy for the warm welcome and a nice confirmation that I wasn't all TMI* (*too much information) there!

magprob : That's just it, you never see them just before they sneak up on you and have a taste! Then, the death roll is just a blurr I hear.
