apprenticeships in vehicle mechanics UK

I really want to start a vehicle fitting/repair apprenticeship, I have drastically changed my life around and want a total career change.
i am 24 and have always wanted to work in a more hands on practical environment, and until recently i thought that this was in the care sector.
i've always deep down wanted to work in a car repair shop but i just dont know how to get into the education or trade.
can any mechanics help me?
