My Internet keeps cutting out at 280,000 packet received

My Internet keeps cutting out at 280,000 packet received and am unable to preform a google/yahoo search in firefox or IE or Opera etc but i am able to search ebay and all sheachs work on safari?? First i thought it was my wireless so i tried connecting from the modem direct thought the ethernet cable but it still stops sending packets at 280,000. I then kept getting a pop up telling me to install a fake firewall program so i ran antispyware searches and antivirus searches and removed a number of threats. I am still not able to search using firefox after reinstalling and installing firefox 3 beta. What should i do??
