I want 2 change my ip address
    Hi
I want to change my ip address, because someone in my household has subscribed to a porn site, and the site is demanding payment for something that I have not had.
I have asked the other members of the house who it was but no-one is owning up to it...
It lead me to believe that it maybe that I am a victim of hackers or something...
The reason I need to change my ip is because the pornsite is putting a window on my screen for about 30 minutes, and I cannot get rid of it. It stays on top of all other windows and will not go away, which mean I cannot continue with the internet etc till 30 min`s has past...

I have called the site in person to make a complaint, but they insist that its my fault for letting someone else use my computer and will not take the window off till the bill is paid...

    Hello timbo:

You'll need to change internet providers.

I would also recommend installing passwords and/or utilized Content Advisor

I would first run ant-virus software. Do you have any? Secondly I would run a utility called CCleaner (available at CCleaner - Home). This will remove all cookies from your computer, which is how I believe you keep receiving pop-ups. Third, I would install free porn filteringh software (you can do a search on Google). Naomi is a big free filtering program as well as WE-Blocker. Hope that helps. Please rate this answer and if you need more technical help (which I can do), please send me a message.

Excon... I'm just trying to help someone out.

Your disagreement has nothing to do with the subject at all. If you want to know, I'd help walk them through Hijack This, which would help remove anything trying to hijack this person's computer. It's complicated and can mess your computer up if you don't know what you're doing. Plain and simple... that's it.

Hope you're not offended (although I think you are) about disagreeing with your post... since you were so adamant about any assistance I could offer. Just trying to be a good samaritan.

    Hello u:

Good smaritan's on this site don't give reddies - especially when the answer WASN'T wrong. He wanted to change his IP address. I told him how.

Yes, I could have told him about other software... I'm glad you did.

Yes, you can't just change your IP address, it is the address given to you when you sign up with your internet provider, If you use dial up, the IP address will vary each time you log on, but if you have DSL or Cable, it will always show as the same address, it is just like your home house number, you can't change it unless you move.

You can go to a coffee shop or McDonalds and log on from there and you will be shown using their IP address.

Excon was very correct, and shows merely your lack of understanding , you should tell excon you are sorry

Sorry for what? I'm not trying to be funny, NOR is there any attitude in this post, I sincerely want to know what you think I should apologize for? I didn't name call or bash anyone, I just disagreed.

Back to the subject, I don't understand how another company can lock in on your ip address and continue to send spam-type pop-ups. I just thought there was another way before changing Internet Service providers. I thought your ip was static too by the way... different from isp.

Is there a way to call this a wash? Sine you're the moderator, Can I remove my rating from Excon and vice-versa? I think we both offered help in the right vein and have seen the error of my ways.

    Thanks

I didn't say you were wrong, only that there was maybe another route to go. I disagreed with just changing isp's just yet. I'll leave the ratings from now on to the asker. In all sincerity... sorry.

    Hi Guy`s

Tnx fer the advice. In ill look into it...

You must understand guy`s that the window is a result of one of my kids suscribing to the porn site, with a 3 day free trial, and was surpose to cancel it before the 3 day`s was up but did not. That's what the lady said on the phone. So if that is true then I will kick some , but my kid`s swear they didn`t set it up so I must assume that it is spam. No the less, my kids are old enough to pay there own bills so why should I have to pay...

I cannot understand why the porn site is aloud to put a window on my screen, and will not let me remove it till 30min`s is up " Is that legal?". And I have spoken to them but they are sticking to there guns about the whole issue. I think that maybe they think that I am the one that setup the account and that I am pissed off with the window... Well they got the pissed off bit right...

Well guy`s that's it for now but I will keep you informed..

Come on guys. Go to WhatIsMyIP.com. Write down address. Turn off modem for a few minutes. If you have DSL, pull the DSL cable. Turn modem on and do the what's my IP thing again. Bet the IP address changed.

ISP providers for residences the addresses for a very short time, so you can't run web servers from home.

You don't need to change your IP address or pay up, this is a scam to try and get you to cough up some dough and can be removed quite easily! My mate had it on his machine.

Give me a little while and I'll research removal for you!

Ok, the one I last removed was called MBS (Micro Billing System) and these scumbags are discussed all over the internet!

    Some good info on removing the window can be found in this HUGE thread;
Forums - MBS Bill - PC Advisor

    Hope that helps a bit!

You can also install a firewall to deny this site from getting through to your PC

If you are using an unprotected wireless network, the culprit may not be a member of your household. I also recommend clearing all cookies off your computer(s) and blocking any but session cookies. Unless, Like me, you only have one choice for broadband, its probably a good idea to change ISPs.
