Address bar on Internet Explorer does not work

When I type an address into the address bar and click on go, nothing happens except that the address gets highlighted. It does not go to the address. We have internet explorer 6.0. We have Windows XP. To get to any address, we have to search for the address and then go to the page from the search results.

I'd try reinstalling Internet Explorer - Get it here

It might also be worth downloading some spyware removal tools and giving them a try (see my signature for some links). Internet Explorer is famous for getting hijacked by various bits and bobs and one of those may have caused the problem.

Hi, Joe,
As your previous answer stated, re-installing IE6 might do the trick.
Here is another way you can reinstall it:
Go to Start/Find or Search, then type in "ie6setup.exe", without quotes, and click on Go.
When it finds it, left double click on the file, and it will start the Installation Wizard. You might need to be connected to the internet. When a pop-up asks if you want to reinstall it, tell it "yes". You can then click on the "custom" installation, and choose Internet Explorer, if that's all you want to reinstall.
Best of luck.
