SpyBot

Hi,
I use AdAware_SE, which has updates about every week.
I also use SpyBot, but it hasn't had any updates for awhile now.
Also use Spyware Blaster, with regular updates.

Does anyone use a different free program, other than AdAware_SE, and Spyware Blaster, that you find has regular updates? I would like to replace the SpyBot.

Thank you for any specific answers,
fredg

+"As of this date and time as already indicated by others in previous posts, Spybot's Integrated Update is broken. This is NOT a problem with your local copy of Spybot and you can't fix it yourself, except to download the Updates directly as also mentioned in the other threads.

The problem is with the main 'spybotsd.ini' file contained on the 'security.kolla.de/updates/' site. This file is either damaged or truncated on that site since it truncates when downloaded at the '[-Mirrors.disabled]' section as shown below. This results in the 'No newer Updates Available' message since there are none listed in this file, which Spybot has no way of knowing is damaged."

If free is what you're looking for, and I gather that you are, download the free MS AntiSpyware from Microsoft.com. Be sure to set the default scan option to full scan as it downloads with the default of a quick scan which is obviously not as thorough.

~ Spybot S&D's update problem seems to be resolved.
I received a "Detection Rules" and an "Immunize Fix" .

SpyBot detects the above as: MySoft: Redirected host (Redirected host, nothing done)

Users of SpyBot are advised to ignore this flag until it is brought to the attention of the folks at SpyBot S&D."

Spyware

Hi,
Thank you for all the info on SpyBot.
It is now working.
As for the Microsoft Anti-Spyware download, no thanks!!!
Microsoft has enough problems with some of their downloads not working correctly; I learned that the hard way some years ago. Microsoft has a very bad reputation for not "de-bugging" programs before it releases them. Even tho the "Anti-Sypware" was bought from another company, it still has some bugs with some windows systems.
Best wishes,
fredg
