Jpeg to dat files

My prospective client is recieving my jpegs as .dat, and therefore cannot open up the file. What does he need to do to open to view the files?
I am running apple mac osx and I presume he has a P.C. This problem has not happened in the past.

Dop't drag the photos into your mail message but attach them as files.

There are no images. They are Macromedia Freehand files consisting of my logo (drawn in freehand) and text. All the text has even been converted to paths.

Any other suggestions?

PS: my friend, who also has a mac, says that it has happened to him a few times as well.
