Internet Explorer 7 Issues

I upgraded to Explorer 7, wish I didn't. And now it says I am not connected to the internet. When I sign on using AOL, I can use the Internet Explorer through that program.
Firefox works fine, but I need Internet Explorer to work on it's own because when I try to upgrade my Garmin Nuvi it says there isn't an internet connection.
Thanks in advance.
