First off completely remove AOL from your system
SSecond you need to tell Internet Explorer to use your DSL connection.
Open Internet Explorer
Tools > Internet Options > Connection Tab > Check "Never Dial A Connection"
Also in LAN Settings UNcheck all the boxes there.
Then click OK on everything and you should be good to go.

Are you sure you are geting a connection.
Try this:
Start > Run > Type CMD > type Ping www.google.com
Now if you have an internet connection then you should get a response from Google.

Please try this and et us know the results.
