Which antivirus system best for me?

Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro laptop and when I purchased it, I was told not to worry about getting anti-virus protection for it because Macs are generally safe from this. I want to get a system installed. Which do you recommend? The Mac Store will not advise. Which system do you prefer?

I personally use Avast but it's for Windows. They do have a Mac version:
Download avast! Mac Edition
