This has been asked a few times, i cant find the old threads though so i will reply. First, contact a major phone carrier and explain what you want to do, you need to buy a block of airtime (like several thousand minutes) at once so if you have limited funds to start it thats a problem.

Next you need to get a toll free number for people to call, and have someone program a computer system to handle the calls, verify the PIN numbers on the card and keep track of how many minutes each card has.

Finally, print the cards... and printing company could handle this. Your major problem with limited funds is getting the minutes from the phone company.

The limited funds will be a difference, in most cases you will have to buy large blocks of time from a major carrier. This takes money, next you will have to build and make cards.

And if you don't sell the cards within a time frame, they expire and you lose your investment.

Also you do realise most people don't use them as much any longer.
I would truly investigate the business and its return on investment before I got into this

I found that there are many affiliate programs and wholesalers. If I start business with them is it profitabale without throwing in too much money? I interested in online virtual phone cards which is only the PIN numbers so the cards do not need to be printed.

That sounds interesting,

I am all for people going into business for thierself, but only want them to understand all the risk.

Any business can be good if you work hard and right. If you do decide to get into it, come back ( good or bad) and let us know how it went.

Starting your own business is the American dream, the going into the business wilderness as the early pioneer and cutting your part of the terrortory with hard work.

I am just starting my own business right now myself, and beleive everyone should follow that dream

I am looking for advice on how to start and what to do. But it seems nobody knows the phone card business and its nature. What Lowtax4eva's way is the most fundamental and most profitabale but higher capital and risk. I can not afford that much money but want to do as retailer or affiliate. Any idea?

I actually work for a company that designs calling card systems. There is no business quite like the calling card business. It is one of the few businesses that you can sell for less than you buy and still make a profit. There are so many tricks, games and methods of making money. We have sold and rented over 400 calling card systems around the world. At the end of the day - your success is based on choosing a reliable platform, a quality long distance provider, and most importantly being able to market your product. You can have the best product - but if you can't sell it - you cannot make money.

After answering this question a few hundred times, and working with hundreds of calling card providers, I wrote a document that does a fairly decent job explaining it. I posted the document on a catalogging site below. It explains what you need and how to get started. In general - you can purchase a solution and maintain it yourself - or you can rent / host it with a company.

Our company website for our calling card product is at PECBilling - Calling Card Software for starting your own calling card business

Starting a calling card business, is as the others say very exciting and also a bit scary. You definitely need to choose your partners very carefully. You also should ask yourself how much of the business you ultimately want to have control over/maintain.

Know that getting into the business and owning all of the necessary equipment is VERY expensive, and it will take you a few months at minimum to get your business up and running. Luckily, there are calling card fulfillment partners that can help you start your own calling card store online very quickly. They typically handle EVERYTHING except for the marketing of the website. Not a bad deal.

AGAIN... do a good job checking out your potential partners; spend time conducting your due diligence. For example, the calling card company I work for, SpeedyPin.com Phone Cards, has been online since 2000. The Company's owners have been in the business since 1997.
