how can I find out if a company is legit?

i recently thought about starting my own business! however; trusting in a company overseas is abit difficult.. they have a trail order which I can order a few items..
So, that seemed ok..but, the shipping charges are included into the price and they want the money first but , then they send the goods..they use Ems,Fedx,UPS most of the major companies for delivery..but, I want to find out if this company is legit of not? the company is located in china..
and they prefer payment by western union ..which I heard is a red light ..to watch out for scam!!

You havent said where this company is located, but I am assuming somewhere in Asia. It isnt unusual for the shipping charges being included in the price. Are you saying you are being billed for the price of goods, plus shipping ? Why do you suspect these people by the way they invoice and ship ?

When you receive the goods, are they satisfactory and what you thought they would be ?

Sorry, I just re-read your post and I misunderstood. Still not unusual to make the first order 'pay up front', they dont trust you either. There is nothing much you can about it, other then pass on the transaction and seek another supplier, ask more questions first. I dont know how you can get around not abiding by their terms if you want the goods.

I cant determine for you if they are legitimate or not, but you could ask for references and how long they have been in business. Write to some of the references they give you to see what their business practices are.

reneac, your assessment of my answer to cduncan is unfair as I dont think you read both my posts on this subject. He is the only one who can determine if he wants to do business with them their way. He needs to supply more information as well.

If this company is using @hotmail email addreses that is another red flag for me. I would never buy items from a company that doesnt have its own .com website and email system.

Listen, it all depends on what kind of business you are. It is most unusual for a legit company to ask for the money up front depending on what it is you are asking for. Samples from manufacturers many times are paid for first but usually only run you between 100 and 200 dollars. If you are trying to order something bulk you NEVER pay up front. You would then use what is called a letter of credit through your bank and it is basically a contract between your bank and their bank that ensures that once both sides have fulfilled the entire agreement, the funds are then transfered. Go ahead and send me an email. I do outsource management along with export/import consulting. BTW, if a company doesn't have their own email it does not always imply they are illegit so don't judge a potential client until you have done your due diligence. [email address]

Just make sure you explain what your business is, what you are ordering, and where you found this company.
