I am putting tile on the ceiling bathroom tub area. I am putting a 2X2 tile ceiling in, is there a specific adhesive to use or just the regular tile adhesive? How do you keep it up before it cures?
I would use a modified thinset mortar. Make sure you follow the instrcutions on the tub regarding trowel notch. These aren't individul 2x2 tiles are they, they are a bigger sheet of tiles, right?

I would make the thinset a little thicker, apply it to the 2x2 and push it up tight and after a couple of rows, I would use strapping tape across tiles to hold them in place. I have not had problems with them falling if the mix is the correct consistency.

So I use the modified thinset, when you say strapping tape across tiles, is it sticky tape? This is in an enclosed tub area, we took out the tub and have replaced it with a whirlpool tub, just a small one. Now onto the tile..so I start putting the tiles up they are 2X2 tiles on a webbed backing so the whole thing is a pretty large square, do a row then tape it in place and go onto the next row right and if I do it right they will not fall on my head!
Correct, the sticky tape is just to hold the tiles up until the mortar cures and additionally so the tiles don't move on you once set. Let cure, usually 1 day. Then go back and remove tape and grout.
To be clear, the tape goes across the tile surface and not taped from tile to substrate.
Thanks, my husband doesn't think I can do this..also, I should measure the area, measure the squares of 2X2's, get the middle of the ceiling and put the first one right in the middle of the two intersecting marks right? I'm hoping I will not have to cut any tiles. Also, do you use regular grout in the corners where the walls meet or is there a better way in order to make sure that there are no leaks.
Since your tiles are on a 12x12 sheet as I suspected you should get pretty good adhesion, maybe the tape won't be needed. I would use small tile spacers equal to the exact space between the 2x2 tiles on the sheet. The spacers will hold the sheet in place and not allow any sag. I also got lazy and recently switched to pre-mixed stainproof grout.
