Man, how embarrassing. I believe I will be checking those dates from now on. You all have a great day. Roland

Back to the question by nervous, Labman is correct. The only thing I don't agree with is caulk and trim being a carpenters best friend. I like putty. We call it "Carpenter in a Tub". All kidding...

If at all possible, always screw flange to studs first, then install wall coverings. Water tends to have trouble travelling uphill. Is this thread frayed?

You do mean double hung, right? On the sides of later model windows, there is a twisted metal guide which is spring loaded, hidden to facilitate ease of operation. If it binds up, the window will...

Hi, Maple is nice. Maple is good. Maple is hard! Food for thought. I built a houseful of Alder cabs a couple years back. We had a ladder fall up against side of fridge wall. Big ol dink. The...

You can go down to Home Depot and pick up a 7" Heavy Duty Scraper that will remove it, given enough elbow grease. The best part is you can take the scraper back when you are finished and get your...

A buddy of mine is a residential painter. We are in central Texas and I know contractors make a bit more in other parts of the country, but he charges a base rate of $1/ft and everything else is...

You can miter (approx. 36degrees) those corners easily enough. Level up 36" off the nose of the first or second steps from top and bottom. Chalk line that and make it meet the horizontal. If you do...

I've always used 1/8" masonite hardboard as a subfloor, puttying and sanding the joints, and had great success with this. Never had glue that refused to dry. You might try sanding and priming and...

We've redone almost every room in our place and had great success washing the walls with vinegar/hot water solution, taped floated & textured and then primed, spackled and painted them. All has...

If the steel strap is 1/4" steel plate then that would alleviate that outward pressure, but it's still a bit of overkill. If your roof is comp shingles, I would just lag those puppies together and...

Matt, your overall thickness should be at least 4" thick as ballenger stated. But where there is a load to bear, such as walls, there should be beams dug. On residential construction this is usually...

I believe you should be able to scrape the area clean and use thinset with an acrylic admix to rebond. Allow a day to cure and regrout. When you go to regrout, make sure to saw out some of the...

All you need to do is mirror your hardware, remove the three pieces of doorstop, plug existing holes and mortises, rehang door and replace doorstop. This is a vague instruction but I can help with...

I have had much success using my angle grinder with a diamond masonry blade attatched. It is quite dusty so make a dust room by tacking painter's plastic to the ceiling and let it drape around the...

I agree with Handy. If those are ceramic tiles, you will have no fun attatching hardibacker to them and you really should have a good solid surface to tile to. I too would tear out and start anew....

Heathro, do those frenchies open out or in? Also, is there no overhang above the door unit?

Let the house settle for about a year. Once it has been through all four seasons, you should, if the foundation is stable, be able to patch and paint those nasty cracks with reasonable success. Good...

John, if your subfloor is concrete, then follow Mark's resolution to the tee. If you are on pier and beam, there could be an alternate fix. If the subfloor is wood, follow Mark's instructions all the...

You have been a great help. I appreciate your input and if you ever have a carpentry issue, maybe I can return the favor. Thanks.

I applaud the remedies by Inspector Dan and Aaron, and I agree there is a bit of overkill there. If it were me, I'd just lag those joists to the rafters near the center of the rafter/joist mating...

I prefer the old 7-11 method. Using your framing square, make the rise 7 inches and the run 11 inches. This is a comfortable stair setup and a pair of 2x6s fit just right on the run for the treads.

If you don't want to change the direction of the swing (keep the door hinges on the same side), then don't remove the door jamb. Just take the door down, remove all the hardware, and I tell you what....

Intertherm Unit, Says Nordyne inside cabinet... Mod#E1EH012HA

Sorry, the unit is an Intertherm and behind the cover, on the lower part of the unit it says Nordyne. The model number is E1EH012HA. Thanks

I have a 1995 Nordyne/Coleman furnace that when thermostat tells it to come on, it just buzzes. Like it won't send the juice on to the fan motor maybe. Anyone?
