Cutting A Tile Floor

One of our experts is asking for our help in a E-mail. Since I have no experience in this area I'm posting his E-mail here. He's away from his computer and on vacation so if any of our experts have the solution to his problem I'll E-mail him back with the answer. Thanks, Tom

Subject : Installing toilet rough-in

| | | Inbox

Hi Tom,

Quick question: I need to rough in a toilet in an existing tiled floor. What's the best (read: compromise between safest/easiest and cheapest) method of cutting the hole through the tile: some sort of "tile saw", sledgehammer and chisel, Dremel, etc?

Thanks,
Moishe

A circular saw with an abrasive "blade" will work, but the few times I've done it, I just used my Dremel. Wear a mask to avoid breathing in the dust.
(Also sent to user by email).

Moishe responded - and asked which attachment to use. My reply:

If I'm not mistaken, the one I used was the thick fiberglass abrasive
wheel...but for ceramic tile, Dremel recommends the Diamond Wheel (#545).

He can also use an angle grinder w/ a diamond wheel. This is more controlable than a circular saw. Havent used a dremmel for that so I dont know about that.
