| Are you looking to do this job for someone else or do you want someone else to do it for you? There are many, many factors that need to be considered when making an estimate for doing an interior paint job. To name just some of the things: surface texture, location and going rates where the job is to be done, manner in which the paint is to be applied - i.e. by roller, spray or brush; how many coats that will need to be applied, any repairs to be done, any washing of surfaces to be done, the type of "sheen" the paint will be, whether two coats is going to be sufficient because of a possible color change, mileage to and from the work site, what the Customer's and the Contractor's responsibilities are as stipulated in the Contract, etc.
Around where I work, the going rate for contractors is .70 cents a square foot for two coats on a perfectly flat surface where no priming is to be done and the paint is applied with a roller. If a primer is to be applied with a roller, the going rate is .50 cents a square foot on a perfectly flat surface area. For trim, if the paint is brushed on, the going rate is $1.25 a linear foot for trim that is three to four inches wide for two coats if applied with a brush. If primer is to be applied with a brush to the trim, then .90 cents a linear foot for the same widths as already mentioned. I don't know of the prices around where I work for painting interiors if the paint is applied by spray. I would think that it would be somewhat less than that which is applied by a roller or brush. Most of the painters that I know that do interior work use a roller and a brush.
Any type of faux painting/finish that will be applied will cost considerably more per square or linear foot because special tools and skills are needed and the cost will vary depending on the type of faux painting/finishing.
None of the prices that I have quoted included the cost of the paint or primer. Nor, do they included any other preparations that might need to be made. |
