I am getting ready to install glass bypass doors on a one piece fiberglass tub/shower and it is almond colored. I would like to paint the outside white to match the rest of the bathroom fixtures. Will white appliance paint work after lightly sanding and priming?

I think that after you prep properly by cleaning, sanding and applying a primer, such as you mentioned, that you should be fine.

Hey...you could try to paint the OUTSIDE of frame like you are suggesting... certainly will last for a few...BUT, won't last long before begins to chip especially at the edges where old meets the new. Eventually, will break down all together and will not look good.

Home depot sells a great quality kohler tub/shower door in chrome for only about $200.00 if you pick it up yourself (they sell online for $240ish including shipping!!). Check out this link....frameless design means install is quite easy:

Now...I hate to see you spend $200....BUT, sandpaper, primer and paint and brushes and all the time you will take to prep and paint this thing and still not have a perfect job in the end concerns me is all!!

Go chrome if you do this...seems to resolve the issue of almond inside tub and white outside tub...???

I'm not painting the shower doors. I just purchased some new ones. I want to paint the outside of the fiberglass tub and the outside edge of the surround. I know it will still be an almond tub on the inside but I'm not ready to tear out another fiberglass tub enclosure yet!

I finally got around to painting the outside of the tub surround white and also installed the glass doors on my guest bathroom. The white appliance paint looks like a new tub.The overspray was horrible!!! The inside is still almond but at least no paint will bubble and flake. I still have to finish my other bathroom shower
