Tub Surround

I am new to the site. My question is I bought a tub and surround from one of the big home improvement places. I was misinformed on how to install. So now I am out of a surround because of a huge crack and hole misdrilled. So what I am wanting to know can I buy a new tub surround and attach it to the tub that had the surround on it and make it look right. The tub has a big lip on it from where the surround is to lay.I have never done any of this before so I really need help. I am in a big jam and of course WAY over budget. Please any help would be great. Thanks
