chair rail height

my walls are 104" in height, do I split that in half and hang my chair rail or can I come from the floor up 4' and hang the chair rail or come up from the base board and hang it 4'.

My personal preference for hanging chair rails is for the bottom edge of the chair rail to be about 3 feet above the floor.

Well, you can always make the chair rail the height of the chairs so the chairs don't hit the wall.
