Commercial Carpeting

I have two questions:

1. Is it absolutely necessary to scrape up the glued down pad from the old carpeting if it is still very secure and the old carpet lifts off it very nicely?? The area in question is on a church stage area and really only used twice a week at the most and for only a few hours. The old carpet is wool and is only being replaced because of a remodelling of the stage; it is not worn. However, it acts like velcro when it comes to lint, string, and glitter litter and is very difficult to vaccum.

2. Is wool still considered the "best" in carpeting? Which is better, Olyfin or Nylon? Is Polyester considered low grade?

Thank you.
