Bid Interior Home Painting

Asked Dec 8, 2008, 09:31 AM — 4 Answers
I am beginning my own Interior Painting business In New Hampshire. I'm trying to find a formula to bid on homes by the square foot. I wanted to break the price into pools such as cost per square foot if I was going to do One coat of prime and one coat of paint. Or just 2 coats of paint, or how much to do full prep and prime and 2 coats. I know I'm getting confusing just want to be fair to myself and my customers. I know I need to adjust if the place is a mess and requires extra work.

Ps where is a good place to find full liability insurance.

A buddy of mine is a residential painter. We are in central Texas and I know contractors make a bit more in other parts of the country, but he charges a base rate of $1/ft and everything else is extras. PS. He likes the extras. Good luck with your endeavor, Roland

Charge what YOU need to charge. It does not matter what anyone thinks that you should charge. Selective Ins. Co. Will insure you. You have to figure it out on your own. We charge $55 an hour. You might only charge $20 an hour and do fine. All depends on you and your cost of living. Get ins. And Workers Comp.- Be legit.
