Bamboo Hardwood Flooring

Does anyone who has any experience with bamboo hardwood flooring have any opinions they wish to share with someone considering using bamboo?

I've got an inexpensive raised ranch which I can't justify flooring in a hardwood for $4+ per sq ft. But bamboo at about $2 sq ft is in the range of laminate without the outgasing. In addition, it's a renewable resouce, it's a hardwood, and looks pretty good (although not as good as, say, oak).

Trouble is, I don't know a single person who has installed it, so I havn't heard of any problems that I would want to find out prior to purchase. I will be doing the installation myself, of course.

I can't answer your question. But I can tell you I watch home improvemnet shows alot and they are beginning to use it quite often. i think it looks good, although I have only seen it from the t.v.

Bamboo is grass basically, just a very different type from what we are used too!, take a look at this Bamboo Flooring | DuroDesign

One problem being that if you have ever played around with a bamboo stick, if you split it, it comes off in long strips and can go all the way down the stick, so if you do split the floor be careful.

Thanks, Elmo13. Splitting is one of the concerns I have. All of the sellers have nothing but great things to say about bamboo, since they are seling it. Although I'm convinced it's the product I'll install, I'd still like to hear from someone who has actually installed it themselves. Nothing like a testamonial from an actual user!

keep in mind if you have energetic pets. I have a 2 year old Australian Shepard and I tested out a box of the bamboo flooring with him on it bolting after a ball. He left scratch marks on the floor. Not deep, but enough that over time would accumulate to something not as pretty. I had to give up on that idea and go with tile.

Other than that, it looks really nice.

The condo across the hall has a Bamboo floor (I have oak) .. it is a little lighter than mine but much nicer.. it wears well as it is a hard wood... I love it.. all the markings in the bamboo show and the boards look narrower than my oak.. the floor stands out the minute you walk in.. I wish I had it in mine unit.. for resale value it is a good improvement...
