Hello, Lauren!

I have moved your question from Introductions to a more appropriate topic area so that it will get more exposure to those best able to answer your question. The Introductions topic area is for introducing yourself only, and we try to not ask questions in that area.

Thank you!

IF you can prove that the other person caused the accident, then you can go after his liability policy for the cost of repairs. But that is going to be hard to prove.

If the person never actually touched your car, then as Scott says, it'd be hard to prove they caused the accident. Therefore your Collision would cover your repairs (provided you have opted for this coverage on your vehicle). The amount your insurance pays out will be based on the deductible you have chosen for your policy ($0, $250, $500, etc). Your insurance pays out AFTER you've met your deductible for the incident.

I investigate these all the time - if you have proof that they caused the accident, yes, they are responsible - but you must have proof.

I would say that the person must have stopped if you have their information - ?
