| | | Theodore Roosevelt 1907 "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.
But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...
There can be no divided allegiance here.
Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all.
We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

| Isn't that of an era when many women and blacks couldn't vote? Times have changed since then. |

| LOL. No I guess I was trying to say that the rigid ideals of then have loosened up some.
Edit to add: that quote does not speak of a 'truth'. |

| A regional truth then, one adheared to by most Americans. Every one is accepted, if done by law. |

| That's true but it blows away the truth about the one language being English. |

| Canada is for the most part French. You probably speak french as well as english. You also have red Indians. Should everyone in Canada speak French, English and red Indian just to make everyone happy? I say keep it simple and have one national language. It is better for schools, business and everything else for that matter. |
