IS OPT valid after H1b Approval

Dear Sir/Md,

My OPT valid from May 2006 to May 2007, but My H1b appetition (in fact, by the corp lawyer) was approved Oct 2006.

But My company told me that I do not need it until the OPT expires. They said they would give it to me next Aprail. I wonder if it is legal or not.

You know, I am not paying MED and SS Tax under OPT, but I should pay them under H1b. Will this cause me trouble for future Greencard process.

Thanks
