French citizenship through spouse.

My wife and I reside in Beirut, Lebanon. We recently got married and are registering our marriage at the french consulate in Lebanon. I would like to know how long it usually takes to attain the french passport through my spouse. I heard laws are about to get more strict and there would be a 5 year waiting period. Has this 5 year waiting period started yet ? or is it still 3 years? If this new 5 year law has been put into effect, I would like to know if there is any way to speed the process through attorneys or other means? There has to be something one can do to attain the french passport in less than 5 years, or not????? I hope you will work as an instrument in aiding me with this matter! thanks...

If it's anything like Canada or the US it's 5 years from the time your permanent resident papers are accepted.

I assume you have to file papers to become a permanent resident of France (it's usually not as easy as just proving you are married, you still have to file an application). Once this is accepted you have to wait 5 years to become a citizen and get your passport. You should be able to call the consulate and ask the exact procedure.
