Brother about to be deported to Canada - what do we do?

Hello all.

I am in desperate need of help. My brother and I were born in Canada to our Canadian parents. My parents divorced, and my mother moved to the states. My mother (now a US Permanent Resident) married a US Citizen. The US Citizen (my dad) adopted us when we were 2 and 3 years old. We were given adoption papers by the US govt. We were given Social Security Cards, etc. While my mother is still a permanent resident here in the US, my brother and I have always thought we were US citizens.

However, my brother lost his license and needed proof of citizenship to get it. He called homeland security to get a Proof of Citizenship paper. They said he is NOT a US Citizen. He has to report on Sept 26th and will most likely be deported because he has a conviction and spent time in jail.

However, he has lived here for over 25 years and hasn't gotten into any trouble since his release 4 years ago. He graduated college in the US, has held a job in the US, etc.

Is there any hope? How do we get him to become a US Citizen? Shouldn't the fact that my father adopted us be enough? Also, my mother's mom was a US Citizen. I have no problems cause I married a US Citizen, but he needs help.

What do we do to keep him from getting deported to Canada? He has his entire life here and doesn't know a single soul in Canada. He cannot leave!!!

Much appreciation.
Thank you,
Jenn

Naturalized US citizens can be deported if they commit crimes.
In this case, what he should do is contact immigration attorney ASAP.
