| How to go from O.P.T. to a work visa? without hiring an immigration lawyer? Hello, I graduated from a masters program in mental health counseling in July 2006. I am from South Korea. I obtained an O.P.T. which expires in August 20, 2007. I have not found a job offer yet which offers visa sponsorship. I'm still looking diligently, and am wondering if I should not ask during the job interview if sponsorship is a possibility. I am only trying to be honest, because if an employer hires me I won't be able to stay in the country longer than the opt if I'm not sponsored.
So I guess that's my first question, any tips on searching for a job as an international in need of a work visa? Some people have told me it is wise to say I'm seeking 'temporary employment' instead of saying I would like to work for a company for a long time because the U.S. government doesn't want to give out visas to people who have a chance or overstaying?
My second question is once I get a job offer that offers sponsorship (keeping my fingers crossed) how do I go about this process of obtaining a work visa? What exactly do I do? And can I do this alone without having to hire and pay for the services of a lawyer?
Thank you for your time and help in advance. |
