H1B Visa Transfer - out of status

Hi, Hope you can help me out.
I have a H1B visa, it expires in Sep 2009. I have been working for the past 20 months. I recently quit my job (4 weeks ago). I am back in the UK now but want to work again in the US. What is the best way. I know I am "out of status" as not been on company pay roll for 4 weeks. Is it possible to do a H1B transfer if I was offered a another job and my old employer has not cancelled the visa?
Many thanks
James

Normally the employer must notify USCIS as soon as the employee resigns, so in this case you cannot do a H-1B transfer. However, you may start the procedure again with any employer.
