Greed card Question

My friend is working for company A on a H1-B visa. Another company B is processing his Green Card at this time. When he receives the EAD card, I understand that he needs to be on the payroll of Company B at least till he receives the Green Card. Is it ok for him to be on the payroll of both the companies (A and B) till he receives the Green Card?
