F1 stamped or I-20?

I first entered the US with a J1 Visa, and then I decided to attend college classes, so, I changed my J1 visa to F1 visa while in the US. It has been just approved, and I got by mail my I-20. My question is, will i get any other things besides I-20, like an I-94 or even a Visa which I can stamp in my passport or will I have to carry this I-20 approved wherever i go, just to prove that i am a legal alien? I am concerned about that, since I live close to the border with Mexico and there are a lot of Border Patrol out here
