Born on US Naval Base in Philippines: Father American, Mother Filipino-citizen or no?
On July 10th 1986 I was born on a US Naval Base in the Philippines. My father was in the Navy at the time and I believe he was married to my Filipino mother. I moved to the US when I was 6 in 1992. I was issued a green card. I obviously also had a passport. Both are now gone and lost. I do not know my citizenship status. From my understanding, my circumstances make me a natural U.S. citizen, but why would a U.S. citizen get a green card? I registered to vote and I even voted. How would a non-citizen get to vote? Was citizenship something I should've taken care of before turning 18? My ultimate question is--am I a citizen? Or is there paper work and hoops to jump through?

My best guess is that you are, indeed, a U.S. citizen.

Look at USCIS - Citizenship Through Parents

    Citizenship Through Parents

Whether someone born outside the United States to a U.S. citizen parent or parents is a U.S. citizen depends on the law in effect when the person was born.

These laws have changed over the years, but usually require a combination of at least one parent being a U.S. citizen when the child was born and having lived in the U.S. or its possessions for a period. Additionally, children born outside the United States may become citizens after birth based on their parent's citizenship or naturalization. I'll alert several people on this site to give you more information as to how to obtain your birth records. Your Navy father is the key.
