Legal to Deduct Hours

Is it legal to deduct for days missed from an employee, that has taken time off to care for a sick animal (2 1/2 days) if she is full time salary (40hours)? And do we have to pay for a full day if she only worked half day?
She has been on salary for 3 months.
We had to increase hours to other part time employees to cover for her.

Thank You
Laurie

It is legal to dock salaried employees if they miss a full day, but not a partial day.

But a lot depends on company policy. Do you provide vacation or sick days? You can force the employee to use up those days for time off. FMLA does not cover pets.
