| rights - UK Hi there - am currently pregnant and had to have a Glucose test on Friday to check for diabetes. I was due to go into work at 5pm that day - however I had no idea how much this test can take it out of you so I ended up calling in sick for that night - explained exactly why - telling them that there would be no problem in me working today (Saturday). Then recieved a phone call later on telling me that they did not want me to come into work on Saturday (today) as they were not prepared to pay the extra ( it is time and a third for working saturdays) So to come in monday. Saturday is part of my contracted hours and always has been. Can anyone tell me if employers can do this? I always thought that if you were contracted to work certain hours and you are fit to work that an employer can not send you home/tell you not to come in, without paying you? Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated. I am also from the UK so obviously advice appropriate to here. Thanks again. |
