Asking for Promotion

Asked Aug 15, 2008, 09:04 AM — 2 Answers
I have worked in one position for ten years and I feel that I need to move on to the top. How can I write a convincing letter to my boss to get that?

First, you should develop a list of the things you have done or accomplished, and when you do, make it a big list, of everything you can think of.

Then, narrow it down to a handful of the most effective or important ones.

You should make mention of your loyalty to the organization, having been through 10 years of service.

Try to make a list of areas you have solid ideas on how to improve things and make the organization more profitable.

Try not to sound like you are bragging, and don't disclose all your ideas so that someone else can steal them and take credit for what you came up with.

Make it fairly short, state your position clearly, and request a personal meeting to discuss your current position and how you could continue to contribute to the success of the company.
