What is this flying insect? White spec's
So Many Seem to have this same white dust like flying insect that bites and goes into the skin & attacks any cuts or lessons you may have making it impossible to heal. Little lines on your skin feels like a razor cut I read that this is worst 2 months out of the year July and August but my experience with this was Jan Feb & March. Now it is April and after moving out of my home I got myself better but in having exterminators over I don't think was the best decision. I spent $$ on the best electronic bug unites but they seem useless. I know the locations where they seem to always be. The dryer, the kitchen they love your clothes and sheets. I have noticed white specs in my dishes and cook wear and some spots impossible to get out. They live in the refrigerator and are in your food. I put plastic rap on rice and meet and on a plate of food and noticed holes they made. Specs on the hard boiled eggs, actually went into the shell and the eggs. A total horror... I went to different hospitals over 9 times and saw numerous doctors...
I can tell you what helped he get out of what I feel was Morgellons and that was building up my amune system with several vitamins drinking cordial silver every day, drinking lots of water. Getting needed sleep, not eating certain foods but on a rather strict diet. But I think what helped most of all was seeing a Chinese herbalist that mixed up a tea of 14 different herbs and changing them weak to weak as I provided my symptoms killing the parasites inside which I felt that they were eating me from the inside and making my body nasty so they did not like me. I feel Im out of the Morlellons now and no longer see white specs flying off me nor my windows in my home or car having these grey spots which would reappear shortly after a cleaning. I did have many things come out of my body thread like substances different colors black specs many different shapes. Some look like coal with sharp edges, only 1 thing I found that looks like something life like that has a tail with different colors that glow and triangle shaped head with 2 short claws pointing in wars I took these with a usb microscope along with many other photos. I took these along with samples of the specs that came out of me to the different doctors and to 2 of the best hospitals in the world in Boston and I was asked if I wanted to see a psychiatrist and like many others that suffer told I'm delusional. It takes that much more out of you. You just have to understand that THEY JUST DON'T KNOW nor do they have a cure or anything that they can or will give you so they might just say it is scabies as they did me. The cream seems to help for a few days but that's it.
If anyone knows what the hell this thing is it would be great as several people are seeing the same thing. Also sparkle like dust that seems like a metal that to go into you cutting you or burning you. At least I know there are others that have experienced the same thing because I was beginning to wonder myself if I actually was going crazy. The more research people do on this the better as this is a huge problem and for a doctor to have the legal right in these best hospitals saying your not contagious ant telling us all we need to seek special help because of them not knowing is horrible and puts us in a legal status. Something should be done. I feel for all of you that are going through this I know I'm in a health in saving my house but its all I have other than my life and I'm stronger now but I will never forget the 4 month in going through this which came to my house after helping a friend at his moms home. Cost me $1000's and over a month to recover.

Please let me know any info on what this thing is if anyone finds out.

    Thank You, John

I have the same issue and YES I have seen the sparkling little speck that looks like metal as well. Please see my post of white parasites - "notimagined" is the id name I have on my question.

Did you resolve this issue then in 4 months? How did you resolve?

    Dear John,
I live in NYC and have had the same problem for a year now. I don't know if it mwans anything but I did work in the garment district and there are some that say this is some kind of cotton parasite. I do know that since the fall of 2010 we have had very mild rainy weather here; having no winter this year at all and they were worse since January. Whatever it is I convinced it is something that should be in a garden or perhaps somekind of fungus fly that exterminators say can't bite you. I believe I may now have Morgellons as a result of their constant biting as time goes on I just get sicker and sicker. They love when I am on my computer and are biting now. I have seen at least 7 different doctors in the past 9 months all keep telling me I have eczema, one said she thought she saw bites but didn't know what kind of bites they were. One Russian intern at Beth Israel ER treated as I was crazy, prescribed prednisone, topical cortissone cream and something called Atarax. I looked up Atarax and it has 3 uses: the highest dose is for pain, the lowest as an antihistamine and the middle IS FOR DEPRESSION. So I am to assume that he thought I had delusional parasitosis, but his face told me that anyway. I collected samplesof the black specks and sent them to an entomologist at the Museum of Natural History thinking at first it was some kind of mite and he replied it was not a mite, they don't fly. I responded by asking what it was and he never answered me. This is so maddening to me I am almost obcessed with trying to find out what this is because it is just so darn annoying. There are so many theories, cotton fleas, genetically altered food, jet fuel emissions, germ warfare; all I o is I just want my health back. My heart goes out to all of you reading this. What helps some for me is EcoSmart puts out a mosquito fogger made of geranium and peppermint oils and if you spray when you see them swarming it will kill them and also kills what black specks come into contact with it. IT DOES STINK HOWEVER. Hot baths of table or epsom salt with tea tree oil works well if you soak for a while then scrub with a loofah and back brush. Upon exiting the tub use gold bind medicated foot powder. THEY DON'T LIKE MINT OR METHOL. Wash your floors in dawn and borax. For your rugs mix borax, table salt and baking soda in a large bowl. Dust your carpets with it and try to leave it sit for awhile; some will tell you 2 weeks which is insane an hour should do as no matter how good a vacuum you have there will be residual embedded in the carpet anyway. Vacuum up and empty the dirt cup or bag into a plastic bag, secure it and put it in the freezer for at least 2 hours as what ever this is can leive in very cold conditions as well. My crazy theory is this is some genetically mutated insect that was probably produced to kill off some other parasite and the experiment has of course gone wild like dome crazy 1950s scifi movie. Don't think that this could be? They have the bugs now they have released in the southwest to kill fire ants. What happens if they don't have any fire ant to victimize? I think this was something that was suppose to kill mosquitoes carrying the west nile virus which by the way if the Mayor here Giuliani would have let them sprayh after the first or second case killed someone would not have spread across the country. If it is something from a lab no one is going to admit it. So that's all the help I can offer you except that the entomologist said it wasn;t and arthropod.

    Hello Fellow Sufferers,
My boyfriend and I live in Northern California and we have this same insect/parasite. It is small, white, lives under the skin and multiplies rapidly. I believe the white insect is the larval stage of some kind of fly or gnat... species unknown. I have had several small black WINGED insects come straight out of my skin! Three came out of my face that I was able to capture on tape. They are definitely a winged insect. The dermotologist I showed my sample to said that it must have come from outside of my skin and that identification was "beyond my area of expertise". The white ones seem to be in every pore of my skin right now. They are coming up from under the surface, leaving open, bleeding sores and they itch like crazy. We have been suffering from this since the beginning of this year, around Feb. 2012. At first we thought it was scabies, then intestinal worms, flukes, a fungal infection, and now think it might be what is described as Morgellons. I have been to three Dr.'s who all tell me that I don't have anything "serious" or that I am delusional. I am definitely NOT delusional about this, but I wish I was! Nothing seems to get rid of them and I have been trying EVERYTHING. Any other advice would be so appreciated!

Hi in Maine. I found an insect flying around the house. I thought it was a mosquito but when my cat finally caught it I looked at it and it is blue. Small like a mosquito. Never seen one before. Any ideas what it could be..

Wow! This is so sad, and no way to have to live. My search for answers has led me here where I am blown away with some of the horror stories I am reading. I am also being attacked right now at my computer even though I have declared war against these invisible animals for about two weeks now. At first they were a mere irritant that I was sure would go away. The sharp bites about my arms, legs, face and neck would come and go without any sign of an attacker.

As of the past couple of days they have increased their assault and have added landing directly into my eyes at random. This is causing an allergic type of bodily response where my eyes have become painful, red and irritated leaving me with blurred vision accompanied with head aches. My days aside of my work are filled with hunting for killers to try to beat these monsters. I can no longer enjoy the comfort and security of my own home.

So far, much to my dismay, nothing is killing them. They seem to fight through whatever I throw at them and come back in swarms. I probably have been bitten no less than 100 times since I started this post. I honestly don't know what to do at this point, but tomorrow I am buying one of those large outdoor bug zappers to hang in this room with me. I hope to come back here and do a full report, but right now I'm going to spray and leave the area while there is some sanity left. This is simply the worse fight to stay in my own home that I have ever encountered.

Reading all of your posts and speculations leaves me speechless. I too, had these insects. I bought rugs that were imported from India. I first started feeling little bites when I sat on furniture near the rug. The bites felt like a tiny serated knife cutting through me. They left little marrs about the size of a dash (-) on my skin. It looked like something was in the dash. Eventually the skin would break open. I had hundreds of these lesions all over my body.

I sent a sample of the rug to a Government Consumer Agency. I told them the store that I bought them from. When they finally received the sample, the lady I had been talking with who was originally very helpful became uncommunicative. I had called other Government Agencies... even homeland security... because they made me so sick I thought I was going to die. Long story short the lady at the agency quit answering my questions and actually told me "Be careful who you talk to". It was beyond weird. She never told me what they found.

I think I got sicker than most of you because I am a kidney transplant patient and I have a very low immune system. At one point I began throwing up and threw up for almost 24 hours straight. I was too sick to even walk to the bathroom to throw up. I just laid my head on a big towel and turned to the side. There wasn't much to throw up anyway as I wasn't eating. I actually prayed to die it was so awful. If anyone knows something we need to act on this. I really believe the government is keeping something from us. I think something they have done has gotten out of control. And I am NOT delusional, sick, paranoid, depressed or in any way mentally compromised.

I did finally get rid of them. I think the most effective thing I used was a prescription cream permethrin. And... I had to move out of the home I had just moved into. Something needs to done.

OMG!! EVERYTHING you guys have described above is EXACTLY what I am going through and everyone around me does think I'm crazy. I'm near tears because my finger tips are all worn down from these white things digging in around my nails & cuticles.

The last post to this thread I see is November 2012 and nothing since... anybody have any updates?

I've given up trying to figure out where they actually originated from because my mind has started to play tricks on me. Meaning I suspect everything from where my groceries came from to shipments or packages we receive from overseas mainly China. I've thought it was from gin-normous fugly junipers outside our house that we just bought 2 months ago.

I have not fully moved in yet as I've been trying to get this place cleaned up and free of every possible bug & insects before getting ALL my things infected.

I am so desperate I've even thought about setting fire to my own skin and I know fire doesn't even do anything to these critters. Please help if anyone has found a solution PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!

    Thank you!!

I want to answer your comment because I realize how difficult this can be. The first thing that I want to do is refer you to www.stopskinmites.com and then I want to
    Add my own tips.

Follow the protocol on stopskinmites.com to a tee. You can't skip steps. There are no shorcuts.

I felt so alone when it happened to me. They swarmed my brand new condo... I had to check into a hotel... they had eaten me all over... places I couldn't reach so I knew they were real... no doctors helped me... no government agencies helped... I was on my own.

At one point I felt them in my eyes and when no one believed me, I collapsed in the hotel hallway crying like I have never cried before. I was talking to someone on the phone whose only advice was "Get a grip or you're going to baker-acted"!

What you are experiencing is real. It is real and it is traumatizing. I will help you in anyway possible. If you want to talk to me I will give you my email or phone number.

Begin by getting the products recommended on stopskinmites.com. Also, I am not associated with them in ANY way. I just tried many other things and Megans protocol worked for me. It doesn't happen quickly but it does work!

I'd like to add to her protocol acetone. The one thing that I couldn't find was something topical that would help on contact. She doesn't list acetone but I found that if I kept a bottle close by and rubbed any itchy spot with a cottonball soaked in it, I got relief. I immediately put the used cottonball into a sealed ziploc bag or flushed it down the toilet. At night I sprayed myself with it, left it on for a few minutes and then took my shower according to Megans instructions.

If possible, leave your home. It starts to make you crazy. You will lose sleep and start to think you are losing your mind.

I have a feeling that the government is aware. I don't think they care. They likely believe it is a lower class issue (it's not).

One last thing. If you have purchased anything new that may have brought them into your house then dispose of it immediately! Mine came in a Pottery Barn rug that was imported from India. I know it for a fact! Consumer affairs division told me buyer beware.

Also, for me, I threw away anything and everything I could that I thought harbored the bugs. The reason: they simply don't die! I threw away brand new clothes that still had tags, expensive Ethan Allen furniture, brand new bedding... and I didn't look back. I'd rather have nothing than have those things.

Please let me know if this helps... especially the site. I'm going to give you my email just in case: [email protected]

We HAVE to help each other.

Walmart & shipments from overseas seems to be the commonalities (sp?) after all that I've been reading... I'm going to start with the different oils and menthols... the oils and anything minty seems to be everyone's suggestions... grrrrrrrrrrrr... my pooooor skin!!

I feel fortunate that my infestation is not near as bad as what some of you are going through. I noticed these flying fuzzy whitish grey lint looking specs when I was out in my pasture. I get the deer in the headlight looks when I ask other farmers near me about them. Believe me these little bugs bite! Thankfully they are not in the house. I was hoping to find out what they are just so I could get rid of them. My husband suffers every spring and summer from some odd dermatological condition that thousands in doctor bills can't identify nor can they cure. Their cures gave him pneumonia and landed him in the hospital. I think its these little bugs. We shall try the mint oil and go from there. Thank you for the ideas and making us not feel so alone in this battle.

One suggestion might be to try insect dust, also known as diatomaceous earth. It works on many different types of bugs (including, but not limited to, bed bugs and cockroaches). Also, check out Organic Gardening Since 1991 | Planet Natural Garden Supply - they have natural/organic gardening supplies and items for indoors to deal with bugs; including several types of bug catchers.
