    Popcorn Ceiling
The popcorn ceilingin my family room blisters, splits and then rains drywall particles on the floor. The sheetrock is OK, but the "paper" separates and hangs in 3" inch sheets from the ceiling. What would cause this? And how can I correct it.

The house was built in 1978. It had some ceiling damage during hurricanes , but that was two years ago, but the problem is not in the damaged area.

Sounds like a moisture problem, do you have a bathroom vent that empty out into the attic instead of outside, or do you have insulation in the attic, also what type weather do you have??
