I believe I have a water leak and its getting worse, sure its going to be expensive, just noticed it, wonder if it is covered. Also when the water is running in the bathrooms, it sounds as if water is dripping in the walls, could this also be a water leak, and could this also be covered by home insurance?

It depends on how long the water has been leaking. Have you called your insurance company yet? If not, do so. They will send an adjuster out that can assess how long the problem has been going on.

Also, what have you done to "fix" it in the meantime? As a homeowner, you are responsible for mitigating your damages. So have you turned off the water to that area? Have you cleaned up as much of the mess as possible; using fans, mops, or a professional service? Have you had a plumber look at it? These factors will be taken into account when the insurance company is determining how much damage they will cover, if any.

Most homeowner's insurance companies do not cover water leaks only sump pump failure and flooding caused by this failure.

Nickosmom is right about all that she told you above, FYI, only federal insurance covers flooding in the U.S.

Do you know what the cause of the water leak is? When I had a pipe in a wall burst because it had been frozen, and then the water did a lot of damage, the repairs because of the damage done was covered by my insurance.

So, maybe the cause of the leak might make a difference as to whether it's covered by insurance or not.

The cause will definitely be a factor. Typically homeowner's insurance covers sudden occurrences so if you had a pipe burst then you'd have coverage. Or if say, while you were away on for vacation and came home to damages, coverage may be provided.

But if it's a case that this is been going on for a few months then most likely, no coverage would be provided.

OP, let us know more about the situation, damages, your course of action, etc...
