Power supply for my Que! M3 external harddrive

Just wondering if anyone had any info regarding this...

My power supply for my Que! M3 external harddrive just died (blinking green light) after many years of faithful service. I had turned it off the night before, something I've only done a few times since owning it. My question is, I just recently put an ionizer in my room in very close proximity to the aforementioned power supply. Any possibility of interference due to the strong negative field created by the ionizer? The harddrive functioned for days in it's running presence with no errors or abnormal activity.
Just ordered a new power supply from Ontario to the tune of $77 dollars American. Ofcourse this is all after having been T-boned in a car accident, rapping my head quite good the night before. Maybe it's just not my week!
Any knowledge or suggestions that might, in the future, help to prevent the untimely demise of my costly new adapter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
