Hitachi Plasma TV won't turn on regularly
I have a 42" Hitachi Plasma TV. Every so often, but more often than not lately, it won't turn on. The red standby light is lit on the front of the set, but no matter what I do it won't come on. I've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, plugging it into a different outlet (although everything else that gets plugged into its normal outlet works just fine), turning off the main power and turning that back on... nothing seems to work with any regularity. I've been trying to turn the TV on for over an hour and it won't work... any suggestions?

As well as the remote control, there will ba a button on the front panel to turn it on (bring it out of standby). Have you tried both?

    Daniel,

Yes, there is a power button on the side (this is different from the "main power" button underneath the front panel) and I have tried that. I think I've tried every combination of button pushing possible about 1,000 times :)

Then I'm afraid there's probably not much more you can do other than take it to a repair place for a quote.

Modern sets are controlled by an embedded microprocessor, which apart from processing the remote control signals, probably monitors a whole lot of operating parameters (currents and voltages, presence of necessary signals, etc). It's most likely that some operating parameter (perhaps a voltage or current) has been progressively becoming marginal, to the point where the processor now says "can't run" and won't switch the set out of standby.

Start your own question posting the model number along with anything that you have tried in order to fix it and your level of electronics knowledge. If you don't have any electronics knowledge then you will need to take the TV in to have it repaired or have someone out to your home.

Kennethauthor, I'm having the same issue as you exactly a week later. If you noticed the thread, it's fron 2009, so I doubt you'll get any responses. But you and I should share notes. What is model number and year. Maybe we have the same one. Mine is a 42" Hitachi Plasma.

I'm having the same problem with the same TV. Did y'all figure out a solution that doesn't involve a repairman?

Read my earlier posts. Start your own thread. Give us the make and model of your TV along with anything you've done to try to fix the problem.

I have the same TV with same problem. I have noticed that when unplug the TV and plug it back in there is a distinct click and pinging sound. I have found that if I hear that sound, the TV will not turn on. However, if I keep unplugging and plugging in the TV, I eventually will not hear that sound which means the TV will power on just fine. I'm not recommending this, after I couldn't get it to come on for a long time,I smacked the back of the TV with my hand, and the next time I plugged it in, no click and ping, and it worked just fine. Obviously I need to get in the back and find the actual problem. But this may help if you need a short term fix.

I have the same problem with the same TV too. I looked at this last post regarding hitting the TV and thought that I may as well give it a shot. And after bringing it to a repair shop and getting told that there was nothing wrong with it and then still having it not come on, I eventually just smacked the back of the set and blammo: it turned right on.

    That's science right there.
