Borrow the Boys handyman service looking for start up ideas.

My husband, brother-in-law and I have started a small handyman business. We have a great concept, low over head (home office) and great prices. The only problem seems to be getting jobs. Craig's list turned out to be a little scary and most people didn't want to pay more then $10.00 per hour. What's the cheapest way to get your business name out in the community? Check us out at Borrow The Boys - Home

Love your company name ! I would suggest you have flyers made up of your website and just get them out in the neighbourhood, take out a small ad, etc.

You are going to have to spend some money on advertising. It is a waiting game, unfortunately, have patience and they will come.

Hi, glynnie!

One of the things that I do for a living is that I'm a handyman. Most of my new business comes from the free ads that I've placed on the Internet as well as referrals. If you would like to discuss how you can get more business, please let me know on this thread.

Also, what specific kinds of handyman work do you and the others do, please?

Thanks!

In all due respect, I'm going to have to take exception to a bit of what you've stated here, Tickle. Advertising for handyman services in order to be successful at it, doesn't have to cost a lot of money if any at all. Most of my new business comes from the free ads that I've placed on the Internet. I do the flier thing and have gotten some business that way, though.

Also, anyone who is self-employed must also be a sales person. That almost literally means walking the streets looking for work and selling yourself as to what you can do for people. When someone does call because of advertising that a person has done, the person who has done the advertising needs to sell themselves just like a professional salesman might do. You open, present and close the "sale", so to speak.

When a person does get the call to possibly do a job, they also need to make sure that they're "Johnny-on-the-spot" as far as timeliness, integrity and accuracy with everything in order to get the job and to build their reputation. In that respect, it's not so much of a "waiting game".

Thanks!

In the states I have resided in, you would have to list your State contracting license number and more importantly to most foks, are your insured? I wouldn't call if I didn't think you had insurance.
