I just finished 8th grade and I will go to high school for the first time in August. But I don't feel ready! I am afraid that I will not find friends, that I will get lost in the school and that others will bully me. I am an ok student, but what if it will be too difficult? What if I will be too busy all the time with tons of homework? What if I don't get high school diploma at the end?I need stop worrying, so tell me, what is high school like? How did you deal with all the problems?
It sounds to me like you're more afraid of the social scene than you are about being ready. Your fears are quite groundless (it's called ANXIETY). High School wasn't anything like I thought it was, and I'm sure it'll be much different than you think, also.
Try deep-breathing exercises (google it) and get your mind on something else.
Ok, Im a sophmore in high school. And when it was time for me to be a freshman, I felt the exact same way. Just remember this, everyone in your class feels the same way. Nobody knows the school, and you will get lost, but your teachers will understand, and you wont be the only one. Promise.
As for bullying, its really not that bad. And you should always tell a teacher if you feel threatened.
The friends part, isnt that bad either. First, you got your friends from middle school, not to mention all the new kids you'll get to meet from the other schools.
All your work, takes up right where you left off in middle school. And your teachers will make sure you get it before they move on. Most dont give much homework, and its difficult NOT to get your diploma. I hope I helped!!!
everone feels this way on the first day of high school. there is nothing to worry about. high school isn't too different from previous grades. it won't be hard if you work hard. everyone gets lost on the first day of school. you'll get used to where your classes are by the end of the first week. you won't be lost forever! as with friends, just talk to people and they'll talk to you. it's not like on tv where all everyone is stuck-up and and one person is always left out. just be yourself.
Well I just got my reportcard for sophmor year, I stood back.
Make sure you pay attention, but dont stress about it either. If you pay attention and arent afraid to ask questions then with the work you'll be fine.
Social wise...high school is very different. I was afraid of the SAME EXACT THING, I wouldnt make friends, I'd be a loner, be wandering the halls. And when I got there, it was like that for a little because I was afraid to make friends, when in reality, its so easy. Just be polite, dont be afraid to introduce yourself. and soon, you'll fall into the right click.
Big hint: Don stress over high school. If you do, thats whats gonna screw you up, you'll be so worried that you might mess up, so dont take the risk at all. Just go in there confindent and you will be fine. Trust =]
You will be fine . Just take it one day at a time. You never know, you may end up being in the same class as one of your friends from middle school, so it wont be so bad.
Your already worried about your diploma? lol if your a good student and did your work on time and got it turned in on time, then you dont have anything to worry about. You shouldnt have a problem getting your diploma. Tho that is 4 years from now. Just make sure you stay on top of your work (not goffing around).
I'm going into Year 8 (or my second year in high school, for all you yanks out there :P) and i was pretty worried about my first year. First of all, getting lost always seems like its going to be a big problem, but it really isn't! Any good teacher will understand if you do get lost within the first few weeksm, because its expected. Bullying and all other social problems can be a worry, but you have to remember how many other kids are going through the exact same thing, and how many of those kids have gotten over it and been ok. UI hope this helped a little xx
I remember my first day of high school, it can be a little scary but trust me every other person in your grade will feel the same. It seems like high school is going to be a pain in the but actually you will probably like it better than middle school because you get more freedom and you can be friends with upperclassmen lol. For me I didnt have any bullys because everyone there was mature and ppl there helped me find my classes and hopefully your high school will have mature students. Just focus on your classes and study hard but dont isolate yourself from your friends or else you wont have friends. Just be confident and trust yourself because your gonna miss your high school years as you get older.
well im only a sophmore i and i kno how u feel. i was actually more excited than i was nervous. dont feel so nervous every other person in ur grade will be the same way. ur not alone and teachers will be there 2 help u if u get lost. they understand that u r new 2 the school and u dont kno ur way around. if u dont have classes or lunch with ur friends set out 2 find some new ones. ask the people at the a lunch table if u can sit down and they will probably say yes and maybe start talking 2 u. dont worry about all of the work u may have some classes every other day so u get 2 days 2 do ur homework. try 2 do some each night so u dont put 2 much pressure on urself. as 4 bullying tell and adult if someone is bothering u. just try not 2 worry u will do just fine.
As a parent of a freshman this year let me just say this...you aren't the only one who is nervous lol! The parents are too It's a big adjustment for everyone but just surround yourself with supportive people and vent and talk when you need to. Don't hold it all in. My son so far is loving it but I think he's surpised at how much responsibility he now has. They don't give you all the chances they do in Junior high! Remember you'll have a counselor they assign to you for a reason if you start to feel overwhelmed and need to talk go to them. Good luck I'm sure you'll do great and the others on here gave some good advice!
