average speed = total distance / total time

Make sure you add up all the average speeds and then divide how many there are.

Average speed in miles per hour = distance in miles divided by number of hours taken to go that distance

Average speed in miles per minute = number of miles divided by number of minutes taken to go that distance.

Average speed in meters per second = distance in meters divided by number of seconds taken to go that distance.


and so on. Got it?
